Silicon carbide abrasive belts are commonly used grinding tools. The following are their usage methods:
Select the appropriate abrasive belt: According to the properties, hardness and grinding requirements of the material to be ground, choose the silicon carbide abrasive belt of the appropriate particle size and model. Generally speaking, coarse-grained sand belts are used to quickly remove materials, while fine-grained sand belts are used to improve the surface finish. For example, for metal materials with high hardness, coarse-grained silicon carbide abrasive belts can be selected for preliminary grinding. For workpieces that have already undergone preliminary processing and require further improvement of surface quality, fine-grained abrasive belts can be selected.
Install the abrasive belt: Correctly install the silicon carbide abrasive belt on the abrasive belt machine or other grinding equipment. When installing, ensure that the tension of the abrasive belt is moderate. If it is too loose, the abrasive belt will slip during the grinding process, affecting the grinding effect. If it is too tight, it may cause excessive wear or even breakage of the abrasive belt. At the same time, it is necessary to check whether the sand belt is installed flat to avoid twisting or deviation.
Adjust grinding parameters: According to the material, shape, size of the workpiece to be ground and the grinding requirements, adjust the relevant parameters of the grinding equipment, such as grinding speed and pressure. For materials with higher hardness, the grinding speed can be appropriately reduced and the grinding pressure increased. For softer materials, the grinding speed should be increased and the grinding pressure reduced to prevent the material surface from being over-machined or deformed.
Perform grinding operations: Before starting the grinding, secure the workpiece first to ensure that it does not move or shake during the grinding process. Then start the abrasive belt machine, let the abrasive belt run at a constant speed, and gently touch the workpiece to the abrasive belt for grinding. When grinding, ensure uniform contact between the workpiece and the abrasive belt to avoid excessive grinding in certain areas. Different grinding methods such as linear reciprocating motion or circular motion can be adopted, and the selection should be made based on the shape of the workpiece and the grinding requirements. For example, for flat workpieces, linear reciprocating motion can be adopted for grinding. For circular workpieces, circular motion grinding can be adopted.
Timely clean and replace the abrasive belt: During the grinding process, grinding debris and dust will gradually accumulate on the abrasive belt, which will affect the grinding efficiency and quality of the abrasive belt. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the abrasive belt regularly. The debris on the sand belt can be removed thoroughly by using compressed air or tools such as brushes. In addition, as the grinding proceeds, the abrasive belt will gradually wear out. When the grinding effect of the abrasive belt significantly declines and fails to meet the grinding requirements, a new abrasive belt should be replaced in a timely manner to ensure the grinding quality and efficiency.
Safety precautions: When using silicon carbide abrasive belts, personal protective equipment such as protective glasses and gloves must be worn properly to prevent grinding debris from splashing and injuring people. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the protective devices of the grinding equipment are complete and effective, such as the protective cover of the abrasive belt machine, etc., to avoid contact with the abrasive belt during the operation of the equipment and prevent unexpected accidents.
